| Title: Tribological Study of Lubricating Oil Containing Carbon Nanotube as Lubricant Additive | |
| Abstract:
In the field of tribology, lubrication plays an important role in minimizing friction and wear. Friction and wear in mating parts eventually lead to failure of parts. Lubricants derived from mineral oil or synthetic hydrocarbon blends prevents the failure of parts by minimizing friction and wear. However, lubricants fail to satisfy the requirements of the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM). A common solution to this problem is to improve the attributes of lubricants, such as improving anti-oxidation capability, thermal properties, and tribological characteristic; a few additives can be added to the base oil. Since from discovery carbon nanotubes (CNT) have attracted much attention due to their properties including in the field of tribology also as lubricant additive for improving tribological properties. In this study, an attempt has been made to obtain the optimized proportion of CNT addition in oil with respect to load for improving wear preventive (WP) characteristic or minimizing wear scar diameter and coefficient of friction (CoF). The Taguchi-grey relational analysis is employed to obtain an optimized combination of load and & wt. % of CNTs additives for improving wear preventive characteristics of base oil. The wear preventive and frictional characteristic of base oil seems to be improved with the addition of CNTs because of the mending and ball-bearing effect created by nano additives forming protective tribofilm over contacting friction pair.

| Biography:
Dr. Sachin Ghalme is currently working as an Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Sandip Institute of Technology & Research Centre (SITRC), Nashik (MS), India. He is awarded with the Doctor of Philosophy in the area of Mechanical Engineering from the Department of Science and Technology, Rashtrasant Tukdoji Maharaj Nagpur University, Nagpur (MS), India. He is having a total of 20 years of experience in the field of technical education. He has authored several scientific articles in peer-reviewed SCI/Scopus indexed journals, including international/national conferences. Dr. Sachin Ghalme is associated with many scientific associations and along with this he is also working as a reviewer and member of the editorial board for International Journals. He is also Guest Editor for various international journals. He has also been nominated as Member of Technical program Committee, Member Scientific Committee, Member of Advisory Committee etc. during various international/national conferences. He has been awarded with ‘IARDO Distinguished Educator-2018’by International Association of Research and Development Organization, New Delhi. He is a Life Member of Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE) and Member of The Institution of Engineers (MIE), International Association of Computer Science and Information Technology (MIACSIT), International Association of Engineers (MIAENG), International Association of Advanced Materials (IAAM) and Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE). He has completed two minor research projects sponsored by Savitribai Phule Pune University, Pune. His basic research interest includes the tribological performance of industrial lubricants, biomaterials and applications of nanomaterials. Presently he is guiding 3 PhD scholars. | |
